Tips for Beautiful Eyelashes

  • Curling eyelashes makes them appear longer and helps to make your eyes look brighter and larger.
  • Clean the lashes before using an eyelash curler.
  • Clamp the curler down firmly and close the base for about 5 seconds, then release it gently.
  • Replace eyelash curlers every 2 or 3 months if used on a regular basis. This will reduce the possibility of infection and contamination.
  • For additional impact, you can use a hair dryer under the curler but make sure that the hot air does not strain your eyelashes or burn your face
  • Making your eyelashes appear longer with makeup and other cosmetic products is but a quick solution. Having your own natural, long, thick eyelashes is the optimal solution and you can achieve fabulous results with Latisse®.

JANE IREDALE PURELASH EXTENDER & CONDITIONER

Just like your hair, lashes can dry out, split and break off. Jane Iredale Purelash can help prevent damaged eyelashes and even encourage extra growth. Your lashes will look longer, thicker and healthier.

Eyelashes play an extremely important role in keeping our eyes healthy and act as a natural defence against dust, dirt and sunlight. While many of us covet long lashes, it’s important to remember that eyelashes are there to perform a function and we need to be careful we don’t hamper this vital natural defence mechanism.

Thinning Eyelashes?

If you believe your eyelashes are not as thick, full and appear lighter in colour as they once may have been, you may be correct.

It was discovered during the clinical trials and testing of Latisse® that the demographic data suggested age is a factor for the loss of volume, length and colour with eyelashes. For more information to re-grow thinning lashes, call Laser Derm for a free consultation.

Latisse eyelashes

Latisse® for longer eyelashes

Latisse® is made by Allergan, the same company that makes Botox. It has sold over one and half million bottles in the U.S. and is now available in Canada.

Latisse® is a Class F drug approved by Health Canada and used to enhance the length and prominence of eyelashes. Latisse is only available through a physician and not available in pharmacies without a prescription.

Originally, the drug in Latisse® (bimatropost) was used as a treatment for glaucoma. Patients soon discovered their eyelashes became longer, thicker and fuller while using the medication. Latisse® is a solution that is applied to your upper eyelashes once a day with a small applicator brush. Visible results can be seen within 8 weeks. Maximum results can typically be achieved in about 16 weeks. Side effects are rare but may include itching, redness and temporary skin pigmentation. Over 90% of women who have used Latisse® have had good results. Longer, thicker, natural lashes are now possible without mascara!

Individual results may vary. The lashes displayed have not been retouched. Subjects are not wearing mascara.

If you stop using Latisse, your eyelashes will return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months. It is possible for a difference in eyelash length, thickness, fullness, pigmentation (darkness), number of eyelash hairs, and/or direction of eyelash growth to occur between eyes (e.g., results may vary for each eye). These differences, should they occur, will usually go away if you stop using Latisse.

Synthetic Lashes (eyelash extensions)

Unlike false eyelashes, where synthetic lashes are applied to the eyelid and then removed after usage, eyelash extensions are applied directly to the natural eyelash with a bonding agent and can last up to six weeks. These bonding agents and glues are irritants and can cause discomfort and potential eye damage in severe cases. Repeated use of eyelash extensions can cause Traction Alopecia, a condition where the hair falls out due to excessive tension placed on the hair shaft. As a result this can damage the hair follicle which can slow down and even cease production of hair.

Because eyelash extensions are such a new trend there has been very little clinical research with the dangers associated them. Take care of your eyelashes and avoid repeated use of eyelash extensions.

Shop Carefully
As more and more consumers shop and make purchases online, it is important to realize there are many counterfeit pharmaceutical products sold on the internet through various websites. Be very careful not to risk buying a product that may contain ingredients which may cause harm or even loss of eyesight. Eyelash products are used close to the eyes and can present increased risks for consumers. Use discretion when buying on the internet and we advise informing your physician if you think you may be a victim of a product sold by an unauthorized source.
