Pigment and Skin Discolouration |
||
Laser Derm in Red Deer uses the Palomar Starlux Pulsed Light and Laser System for removal of pigments, sun damage, rosacea, acne and age spots to promote skin rejuvenation. Laser treatment is also an effective way to remove leg and facial veins, and for permanent hair reduction. Many people live with facial pigment or skin discoloration, which make them feel consciously aware of their appearance when trying to make an initial first impression. In the past, this cosmetic problem could only be solved with the application of make-up to mask or cover up the area, which in many cases was somewhat ineffective, those days are thankfully over. Today cosmetic LASER treatment of facial pigmentation can dramatically improve or eliminate the offending discoloration. Over time, your tissue or dermis, becomes thinner as the dermis loses its collagen and fiber, as the support structure diminishes your face begins to deflate. Gravity will also add to the aging face by pulling your dermis downward and it will start to sag and descend. Aging, stress and sunlight contribute to the discoloration of tonal appearance. With deterioration, red and brown spots become more visible with time, and the loosening of the texture of the skin all contribute to a wrinkled facial feature. The pores, along with the uneven colors and wrinkles, absorb light and cast unflattering shadows, which is why older people look better in darker lighting conditions. LASER treatment or Intense Pulse Light can even out the skin color or pigmentation and tighten the skin resulting in bright, smooth luminescent tonal appearance allowing the skin to sculpt evenly and harmonize your natural features for a younger, more beautiful look. Deterioration, deflation and descention (sagging) will change the attractiveness of a once young and beautiful symmetrical face. |

| Facial Vein Treatments | ||
Unsightly spider veins (telangiectasias) and red blotchiness on the face (rosacea) affects millions of people. Laser Derm & Wellness Centre’s IPL treatments now offer relief from these embarrassing skin problems. Usually several treatments are needed. Rosacea is an example of this type of facial vein. The tiniest veins can be eliminated with our light and laser technology. For optimum results, we select the specific type of laser energy that will be most effective on each tiny vein. The Palomar system delivers precise dosages of energy of pulsed light to each vein, with a minimal risk to the skin. During these skin rejuvenation treatments, micro beams of energy are delivered through a special hand-piece to the targeted vein in a series of brief pulses. The energy is absorbed by the blood vessel, causing a thermocoagulation (clotting) of the blood vessel. The clotted vessel is then slowly absorbed by the body and gradually disappears. |

Laser Treatment Dangers |
||
The dangers of having laser treatments performed by unskilled laser technicians is becoming more acknowledged and gaining more media coverage all the time. More people are getting seriously burned by lasers operated by unskilled or undertrained technicians with the ever-growing number of laser clinics opening up across the country. It is important to research and ask questions regarding the training of technicians and of the equipment being used before getting treatment. A technician’s knowledge of skin-types and how they react to different laser settings can greatly reduce the risk of serious burns during treatments. At Laser Derm a skin test (in an inconspicuous area) is performed 24 to 48 hours before treatment. This adds another measure of safety to reduce risk for patients undergoing laser treatment. Laser Derm's aestheticians are trained specifically for the pigment laser that we use (Palomar Starlux Pulsed Light and Laser System) by Palomar's laser experts. You can be assured that your treatments are being performed by certified experienced laser technicians all of whom have years of experience. Our laser technicians are knowledgeable with the Fitzpatrick Skin Type Scale which is important for choosing the optimum laser setting for each individual to ensure safety and quality of the laser treatment. Doctor Bakken also oversees the progress of all patients being treated. Your safety and the quality of your treatment is important to us. |

About the LASER |
||
Laser Derm and Wellness Centre has chosen the Palomar Starlux Pulsed Light and Laser System because it offers the most versatile, effective, and comfortable aesthetic solution treatments available for skin rejuvenation. |
||
| How does the laser eliminate facial veins or skin pigmentation? | ||
| The Palomar aesthetic LASER emits pulses of concentrated intense controlled beams of light into the skin or dermis. The light is absorbed by the melanin or pigmentation in the skin. The damaged lesion (target area) naturally disintegrates and then visibly disappears as the skin exfoliates vastly improving skin tone. | ||
| How is pulsed light laser different from laser systems? | ||
| Pulsed light systems and lasers are very similar, but pulsed light uses a much larger treatment window than most lasers. This spreads light over a wider area of skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker treatments as a result. | ||
| What Facial areas can I get treated with the laser? | ||
| All areas except directly around the eyes. | ||
| Are these treatments safe? | ||
| Laser Derm and Wellness Centre's certified professionals will go over the risks and benefits of treatment with you. LASER pigment discoloration treatments are skin-safe and comfortable. The LASER hand-piece delivers its energy in one smooth, gentle pulse, to protect the skin from a sharp rise in temperature. | ||
| Is this treatment for everyone? | ||
| There are very few restrictions regarding LASER pigment discoloration treatments. | ||
| Are laser treatments painful when being treated for facial veins? | ||
| Using a chilled water supply running through the LASER hand-piece, down to its tip, in contact with the skin during treatment, your skin is continually cooled. You will feel little heat from the LASER pulses and as a result, very little discomfort. | ||
| What can I expect if being treated for facial veins or skin pigmentation? | ||
| Your Laser Derm and Wellness Centre's certified professional will move the hand-piece over your skin, pulsing as it covers the target area. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the hand-piece is being pulsed. | ||
| What can I expect after being treated for pigment or skin discolouration? | ||
| Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs. Typically, several treatments will be necessary to achieve desired tonal coloration. | ||
| Laser Derm upgrades medical equipment (November 2011) | ||
| Laser Derm has just purchased a new hand-piece (replacing the older model) for skin rejuvenation. Most hand-pieces have a limited number of light-pulses before the equipment becomes weakened and less efficient making the treatment of pigments and other skin discolouration disorders less effective. Laser Derm continues to monitor all equipment to ensure that the integrity of the technology for treatments is up-to-date and verified as to be in proper working order to achieve a high success rate for patients. | ||
